 Updates about Asia Cup 2022 || Dates, Venue?

In the ACC meeting held today, certain things about Asia Cup 2022 have been decided and as some of the updates have come out, let's discuss them.

Format

As we are also having the ICC Men's T20i World Cup this year in Australia which will last from 16th of October to 13th of November, The Asia Cup this year will also be played in the T20i format. As we have the 50-over World Cup next year, it is expected that the Asia Cup 2023 will be played in ODI format next year in Pakistan.

Dates And Host

ACC (Asian Cricket Council) shared this news through their twitter handle where they informed the fans that the Asia Cup 2022 will be played from August 27th to September 11th and Sri Lanka is going to host the tournament this time.

The Asia Cup 2022 (T20 Format) will be held in Sri Lanka from 27 August - 11 September later this year. The Qualifiers for the same will be played 20 August 2022 onwards.

ACC News 

Meanwhile, the Asian Cricket Council added 2 more tweets in their Twitter handle where they informed the fans that Jai Shah from India will continue to be ACC president till the year 2024.

Secondly they also announced that Qatar Cricket Association have been made the full-member of Asian Cricket Council as they were Associate Members before.

ACC would like to congratulate Qatar Cricket Association, who membership has been upgraded from Associate to ACC Full Member status.

Asia cup was supposed to be held in Pakistan firstly in 2020 but due to Covid-19(coronavirus) outbreak and restrictions, it was cancelled. 

The ACC then wanted the Asia Cup to happen in June 2021 in T20i format in Sri Lanka but as the ICC World Test Championship's final was supposed to be played in the same window, this idea got rejected. 

A meeting was then held in October 26th at Dubai where Asia Cup 2022 and 2023 were finalized and their hosts were also declared as Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

This Asia Cup will be a kind of practice for teams like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan as they will be looking forward to the ICC Men's T20i World Cup after a month. 

Between the time of Asia Cup and T20i world cup i.e. 12th of September to 15th of October, England and Pakistan will play a 7 T20i matches' series as a practice for ICC Men's T20i World Cup.
